IFA president John Dillon led a delegation of beet growers that met with Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan to discuss the €145 million restructuring aid that is part of the EU sugar reform package.

Mr Dillon reiterated his view that the money cannot go to Greencore and must compensate growers.

“I stressed to the minister that this issue must be resolved with immediate effect,” he said. “Growers who have invested in quota, land and machinery are not going to allow Greencore walk away with 90% of the compensation fund.”
