CONTROL measures to monitor the importation of both genetically modified (GM) seed and GM animal feed materials are in place.

Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan told Sinn Féin agriculture spokesman Martin Ferris, in a written reply to a Dáil query, that national legislation is in place requiring all importers of bulk feed material to give her department prior notification of such material being imported.

Documentary checks are carried out to ensure compliance with the labelling requirements, as set out in EU regulations on GM food and feed.
