Compelling reasons why Ireland’s bioenergy should be developed

Biomass can be used to provide bioenergy. Biomass is all organic material, such as plant matter (leaves, stems, etc) or it could be the animal mass resulting from the consumption of plant material.

Types of biomass that are used to provide bioenergy include wastes from forestry and related industries, recycled wood, agricultural residues and agri-food effluents, manures, the organic fraction of municipal solid waste, separated household waste and sewage sludge. Or bioenergy can come from purpose grown energy crops such as short rotation forestry, miscanthus (elephant grass), etc.
