Warning about B&B cattle disease

Farmers were advised yesterday of significant disease risks associated with the mixing of cattle from different sources in housing sheds, colloquially called ‘Bed and Breakfasts’.

Minister of State John Browne said while the so-called B&B arrangement can offer advantages in terms of management, farmers should be aware of the significant disease risks that can ensue.

Farmers availing of B&B facilities should ensure they, and B&B operators, take precautions to minimise disease risks to stock and their own livelihood.
