A week ago I said here that the only way Sanctuaire could beat Sprinter Sacre in the Victor Chandler at Ascot, which was postponed and subsequently rescheduled to Cheltenham this afternoon, was if Nicky Henderson’s headman forgot to load their horse into the box.

I’m spending a rare Saturday at home today in Naas - weather permitting - after Ascot was abandoned yesterday.

This is going to be a particularly quiet weekend for me. I’m suspended today and have only one ride at Navan tomorrow, Willie Mullins’ Suntiep in a two miles and seven maiden hurdle.

I travel to Wales today for six rides at Chepstow and it is great that the rescheduled Welsh National forms part of the programme.

It was fantastic to win a third Lexus at Leopardstown yesterday on Tidal Bay, to go with previous victories on Rince Ri and Denman.

I’m hoping to win the King George at Kempton on Wednesday aboard Kauto Stone, but the more I’ve looked at the race the more convinced I’ve become that Long Run is going to be hard to beat.

Four rides at Ascot today, two at Thurles tomorrow and no Big Buck’s sums up my weekend rather neatly, I think.

My nap of the weekend comes in the very first race at Cheltenham today — Far West in the juvenile hurdle — so we’ll all be out of our collective misery fairly early.

The one certainty about the Tingle Creek at Sandown today is that it is going to be spectacular.
