Be careful those 'improving' presents aren't re-gifted this Christmas
Be careful those 'improving' presents aren't re-gifted this Christmas

The headphone jack could be sent into obsolescence
The headphone jack could be sent into obsolescence

IT’S just a rumour at the moment. There’s talk that Apple are thinking of getting rid of the headphone jack or at least changing the size of it.

Are you truly passionate about your job or have we forgotten what the word means?
Are you truly passionate about your job or have we forgotten what the word means?

I think we have reached Peak Passion. I saw an advertisement this year, for an accounting technicians course which asked the question of those potentially interested: “Are you passionate about accounting? Take your passion one step further with our accounting qualifications.”

The reality is that we're all interested in TV like First Dates
The reality is that we're all interested in TV like First Dates

Perfection: Our souls are incomplete until we get the first stain
Perfection: Our souls are incomplete until we get the first stain

I CAN’T remember much from my formal education — just useful snippets: “Stony grey soil of Monaghan you burgled my bank of youth”; the stages of development of an oxbow lake; how long it takes for an oven to cool if the oven-door is left open; and the Hardness Index.

Banter has taken all the fun out of craic
Banter has taken all the fun out of craic
MAYBE it was just that I got a bit carried away when the doorbell rang. In a self-employed house we don’t meet too many people so the doorbell brings a frisson of excitement. It used to ring a lot more, but we put up a rather stern sign listing all the people we didn’t want calling.

Days spent looking at digital displays
Days spent looking at digital displays
After years of waiting it’s finally here. There have been numerous false alarms but within nine days the real thing is going to happen.
