Earlier this month, Sony unveiled the ZV-E10 II, the second iteration of its popular ZV-E10 mirrorless camera. Known for its compact design and versatility, the original ZV-E10 quickly became a favourite among content creators. The ZV-E10 II promises to further enhance the game with impressive updates and features.
The ZV-E10 II has an upgraded 26MP Exmor R CMOS sensor paired with Sony's BIONZ XR image processing engine.
The new Cinematic Vlog mode automatically optimises aspect ratio, frame rate, and autofocus transition speed for a cinematic look, designed to make it easier to create high-quality video. The camera also offers ten customisable Creative Look options, allowing users to personalise their visual style directly from the camera.
The autofocus system has also been improved with 759-point focal plane phase-detection AF and real-time eye AF for humans, animals, and birds, the ZV-E10 II. I know from using other Sony cameras that this feature works great, but we have yet to see a Sony camera that can automatically switch between these modes.
One of the biggest upgrades is the battery. We now have the ZV-E10 II with a high-capacity Z battery. This upgrade allows for up to 195 minutes of continuous movie recording, reducing the need for frequent recharges during long shoots. If you own one of Sony’s full-frame cameras, you can now share batteries with the ZV-E10 II.
Sony introduced the E PZ 16-50MM F3.5-5.6 OSS II lens with the camera. This compact power zoom lens is designed to complement the ZV-E10 II, offering improved autofocus and video performance. Weighing just 107 grams, it should be an ideal companion for on-the-go creators.
Yann Salmon Legagneur, Head of IP&S Marketing at Sony Europe, highlighted the company's commitment to innovation: “Our aim with the advancements of the ZV-E10 II is to inspire creators to develop or recreate their unique style. We are committed to continually evolving our technology to help creators of all skill levels bring their visions to life.”
The camera’s additional features are tailored to streamline content creation. A new vertical user interface, 4K 60p video capture, product showcase setting, background defocus function, and face priority auto-exposure all contribute to a user-friendly experience. It includes a USB 3.2 Type-C port and 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, which should improve data transfer and live streaming capabilities.
The camera body is made from recycled materials, and the packaging uses Sony’s eco-friendly Original Blended Material.
Available at the end of July 2024, the ZV-E10 II (body only) is priced at approximately €1,100, while the lens kit is around €1,200. The E PZ 16-50MM F3.5-5.6 OSS II lens will cost about €330.
