The Nank OE Mix open-ear headphones are designed for sports enthusiasts and those who find in-ear buds uncomfortable. They offer a breathable, open fit for comfort and safety during activities at an affordable price.

Design and comfort

The Nank OE Mix headphones feature an open-ear design, which means they rest comfortably on your ears without covering them. This makes them ideal for sports and outdoor activities, as they allow you to stay aware of your surroundings, ensuring safety while jogging, cycling, or hiking.

The breathable fit also reduces ear fatigue, making them perfect for extended use. I had no problem wearing them for several hours in the office, for walks, and even just around the house. Each bud weighs 6.7g and is perfectly balanced while sitting on your ears. The shape allows them to fit snugly on your ears, offering excellent comfort and security. After a while, you forget you're wearing them because they're so comfortable.

Being able to hear what’s happening around you is great, especially outdoors from a safety point of view, but it’s also great in the office where you need to hear those around you.

The OE Mix is unsuitable for swimming but features IP55, which offers limited protection from dust, low-pressure water jets from any direction and wet weather.

Noise-cancelling technology

Despite its open-ear design, the OE Mix has built-in noise-cancelling technology, ensuring your conversations remain clear while reducing background noise. The noise-cancelling technology filters ambient noise, allowing you to focus on your call or music. Of course, the open-ear design isn't as effective as in-ear buds with active noise cancellation.

Audio quality

In the past, open-ear headphones didn’t sound great, but the technology has vastly improved, and we are now seeing it mature even in budget models like the OE Mix. The Nank utilises directional sound transmission technology for precise tuning of multi-level sound chambers, preventing sound leakage and enhancing sound concentration. This means you get a focused audio experience without disturbing those around you.

The OE Mix features 16.2mm vibrating diaphragm speaker drivers, much larger than those in typical wireless earbuds. This results in rich, balanced audio with clear tones, decent bass, and an immersive soundstage.

The bass is much better than I expected, but it isn’t on the same power level as standard buds. What you lose in bass, you gain in an expansive stereo soundstage. As open-ear designed headphones go, the OE Mix provides a well-balanced sound signature.

For gamers, the OE Mix has a 60ms low-latency gaming mode that ensures in-game sounds are synchronised with the action, enhancing the gaming experience.

Connectivity

The OE Mix is equipped with Bluetooth 5.4, ensuring a fast and reliable connection with minimal latency. However, it doesn’t support connecting to two devices simultaneously.

This latest Bluetooth technology provides seamless audio and video synchronisation, making these headphones perfect for video calls, streaming, and gaming.

Battery life

The OE Mix has up to eight hours of playback time on the earbuds and 36 hours, including the case, so that you can enjoy music and calls for extended periods without frequent recharging. A USB-C cable is included to charge the case, but it doesn’t support wireless charging.

Verdict

The Nank OE Mix open-ear earbuds are an excellent choice for anyone looking for comfort, safety, and decent audio quality without breaking the bank. Their open-ear design makes them ideal for sports and outdoor activities, while the open soundstage, decent battery life, and low-latency gaming mode cater to a wide range of users.
