Vitesy Shelfy: The smart solution to keep food fresher for longer

One of the greatest sins in the first world is the amount of food we waste. Writing from personal experience, I often put food at the back of my fridge and then forget about it. One of the issues is we overstock, and the other is that food is perishable and doesnât last long enough. While the first problem requires a change of habit, the second can be improved with a new device, which Iâve been testing for the last while. The Vitesy Shelfy is a smart device designed to extend the shelf life of food, reduce bacteria, and eliminate unpleasant odours in your refrigerator.

The Vitesy Shelfy is a compact device weighing 567g and easily fits in your refrigerator or door shelf. Itâs pretty simple-looking and includes a fan, lights, and a filter. Itâs quiet, and you donât hear it as it works away intermittently inside the fridge.

Shelfyâs has advanced air purification technology that degrades the molecules responsible for ripening, extending the shelf life of food by up to 12 days. This is particularly beneficial for fruits and vegetables, which often spoil quickly. In just 10 minutes, Shelfy reduces circulating bacteria by 98%, significantly cutting down the risk of contamination and ensuring your food stays fresher for longer.
The device uses photocatalytic technology, eliminating the need for replacement filters. The only maintenance required is to wash the filter under running water, making it a cost-effective solution in the long run.

One of Shelfy's most impressive aspects is its ability to eliminate unpleasant odours. The device is designed to reduce 80% of bad smells, and while I can say that anecdotally, my fridge didnât have any bad odours during my time testing Shelfy, I have no scientific method to prove it. However, these statistics have been scientifically validated by Italian universities and laboratories through rigorous testing. The tests included measuring bacterial load reduction, diminishing bad odours (such as trimethylamine, hexanal, and pentyl butyrate), and reducing ethyleneâa gas released by fruits and vegetables that accelerates the ripening of other produce.

Shelfy offers three different modes to cater to various needs: Eco mode for optimal battery consumption, Crisper mode for use in the crisper drawer, and Performance mode for maximum power. I used the Eco mode, which worked fine with the battery and lasted around three weeks. However, while Iâm glad the device can be charged with a standard USB-C cable, you need to remove it from the fridge, which can take hours to charge fully. Charging it from 25% to full took hours on my first recharge. I discovered my 100W adapter was only outputting 3W to the unit. I tried a different charger and cable and managed a more respectable but still slow 8.5W. My niggle is that while itâs charging, itâs not in the fridge doing its job. However, it doesnât record any data while charging to ensure it doesnât give you false information.

The device connects to the Vitesy Hub app, which has insights into your fridgeâs wellness. The app tracks how many times a day you open the door and for how long. This information can help improve efficiency and reduce energy costs.
It also monitors the fridgeâs temperature, ensuring the ideal environment for food preservation. Ensuring the temperature is between 2 and 4°C is important to how long your food stays fresh. I changed my fridge a few months ago because it wouldnât go below 7°C.
The app provides easy-to-read charts, allowing you to track improvements over time. It also gives a countdown reminder to clean the filter every 30 days and every 120 days for a full, deep clean.
You can set notifications to alert you if the air quality is bad when the battery is low, and when itâs time to clean the filter or fridge. While you still need to change shopping habits to reduce waste, I liked how the app displays the fridge's health and simple things like a reminder to clean the fridge regularly.
Shelfy can be linked to smart home assistants Google Home and Alexa. I connected it with Alexa, and while you can ask, âWhatâs the temperature of my fridge?â its usefulness is limited.
The Vitesy Shelfy combines advanced air purification, odour elimination, and smart connectivity, making it a must-have device for any household looking to reduce food waste and save money. While I would like faster charging, Shelfy does what it says on the tin at an affordable once-off price.
