The Lofree Dot Series Liquid ‘Foundation’ is a stylishly funky keyboard with a fresh approach for those who want more than just a functional keyboard. Lofree has achieved a premium look and feel using high-quality liquid foundation in the keycaps. Each keycap is meticulously crafted with a real liquid foundation, resulting in a rich finish that exudes sophistication and durability.

Premium construction and design

With dual-tone injection-moulded keycaps and custom satellite stabilisers, the Dot ‘Foundation’s style sets it apart from the myriad of generic keyboards. The materials used, the finish, and the build quality are top-notch. The precisely designed elements ensure consistency and quality with every keystroke, producing a smooth and precise typing experience.

It’s important to note that the Dot is a mechanical keyboard with long key travel, and the keystrokes are much louder than a typical membrane keyboard, especially those found on laptops. If you’re okay with that and are looking for something different, then the Dot is worth a look. While the Dot offers a unique style many will love, others may prefer something other than the striking design.

Versatile connectivity

Beyond its funky appearance, the Dot ‘Foundation’ offers impressive technology beneath the surface. For example, you can easily switch between three connectivity modes: high-speed wireless 2.4GHz using the USB dongle, which is neatly tucked away in the top edge of the keyboard, wireless using Bluetooth V5.3 or wired. This makes the Dot compatible with a vast range of devices. You can toggle between three different paired Bluetooth devices by pressing fn and 1, 2, or 3, and 4 is for the 2.4GHz mode. I also love the built-in slider that can switch between Mac and PC keyboard layouts.

Long-lasting performance

You'll never have to worry about charging if you connect the Dot to your device via the included colour-matched USB-C cable. However, it has a high-capacity 4,000mAh battery that delivers extended usage of up to six to eight weeks on a single charge.

Personalised typing experience

The Dot ‘Foundation’ offers a customisable typing experience with its single-colour backlight and seven pre-installed lighting effects. You don’t need software to configure the lights; press the Fn and arrow keys to toggle through the different effects.

Full-key hot-swappable keycaps are a nice addition for those who want complete flexibility and customizability.

Comfortable typing experience

The keyboard features a gasket internal structure for enhanced comfort and fast typing feedback. Specially engineered Gateron Baby Racoon mechanical switches offer a smooth typing experience with a light 40g trigger force, ensuring both comfort and elegance. I had no problem quickly getting used to the Dot for fast typing, and as mechanical keyboards go, they're not too noisy.

Verdict

There’s so much to love about the Lofree Dot Series Liquid ‘Foundation’ keyboard, including style and performance. Its premium aesthetics, versatile connectivity options, long-lasting battery, and personalised typing experience make it a sophisticated choice for users who value aesthetics and functionality.
