Microsoft HoloLens sales “in the thousands”

Sales for Microsoft’s HoloLens developer kits are in the thousands, according to HoloLens commercial lead Roger Walkden in an interview with The Inquirer.

Although primarily aimed at developers and businesses, anyone can purchase Microsoft’s mixed reality headset for a fairly hefty price of $3000.

Understandably, this means that the HoloLens headset is probably out of reach for most consumers, and this appears to be what Microsoft expected.

Walkden said in the interview:

"We're not trying to sell hundreds of thousands or millions or anything, it's expensive, and it's not in huge numbers. We're happy with the level of sales that we've got. I can't tell you anything about the numbers, but it's in thousands, not hundreds of thousands, and that's fine. That's all we need.”
