After months of investigation, Samsung has finally revealed what caused a number of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones to catch fire; two distinct battery flaws.

The Note 7’s original batteries were manufactured with casings too small to fit the device’s electrode assembly, which led to some devices short-circuiting.

Samsung recalled the Note 7 following a number of reports of the devices catching fire and replaced the faulty batteries with safer models.
