Titanfall 2 matchmaking looks at player contribution
Respawnâs Mike Kalas covered some of the lessons learned from the release of Titanfall 1, including that the matchmaking process looked chaotic and confusing. He wrote, âBy showing the teams being formed in the lobby, the process can appear chaotic and encourages players to back out and search again, which adds to the visual confusion.â
He added that playersâ skill was updated after each round, but there was no way to move players to a different match. Unless players left a lobby to improve their situation, Respawn couldnât help them out and put them in a more fitting match.
Titanfall 2âs matchmaking changes the mechanisms behind the scenes and he says that the quality of matches and speed of matchmaking is better across the board. The new system uses wins and losses, of course, but also looks at a playerâs overall contribution to a match. This means that players who are still getting to grips with the game but happen to find themselves on winning sides wonât end up in over their heads too soon.
Kalas finished the blog post by saying that the upcoming Tech Test, which weâll likely hear more about at Gamescom, will ânot only test the strength of our servers, but also prove that our matchmaking system can do what it should be.â
