Facebook to make sure you can't block ads
The company makes the majority of its revenue from advertising. Its financial results published in July highlighted that it made $6.2 billion in the last three months from advertising compared to $200 million from other revenue streams.
Facebook's vice president of ads and business platform, Andrew Bosworth, said that Facebook will make it harder for ad-blockers to work effectively on desktop. He added that ads can be helpful and useful, but noted that many ads don’t work in this way.
As a result, Facebook plans to give users some control over the types of ads that they want or don’t want to see. Facebook hopes to find a middle ground by letting users report irrelevant ads rather than letting users block ads entirely.
