Facebook to make sure you can't block ads

Facebook is to make it tougher for ad-blocking software to identify sponsored ads, meaning you’re going to see more of them in your News Feed very soon.

Facebook to make sure you can't block ads

The company makes the majority of its revenue from advertising. Its financial results published in July highlighted that it made $6.2 billion in the last three months from advertising compared to $200 million from other revenue streams.

Facebook's vice president of ads and business platform, Andrew Bosworth, said that Facebook will make it harder for ad-blockers to work effectively on desktop. He added that ads can be helpful and useful, but noted that many ads don’t work in this way.

As a result, Facebook plans to give users some control over the types of ads that they want or don’t want to see. Facebook hopes to find a middle ground by letting users report irrelevant ads rather than letting users block ads entirely.
