Google Hangouts update makes messaging easier

Google Hangouts version 7.0 is out, and naturally enough there are some new features to try out.

The biggest addition is a new 'quick reply' feature. This lets you tap on a message in the notification bar and compose a reply right there and then, without having to load the app. That's a neat feature, and actually a little like how this kind of functionality works when you're checking out the app through a smartwatch. You'll also be able to get into frequently used conversations quicker, with the ability to add a specific shortcut to your home screen. Just tap on it and you'll be in the window for that chat, without needing to load the main app page first.

These are solid incremental improvements to the well regarded mobile app, which can also be used to sync all of your text messages and other communications. Version 7.0 is being rolled out to select users at the moment and will go wide in the coming days.
