Super Mario Maker has sold more than 1 million units

Mario fans tend to be a passionate bunch, so when presented with the chance to create their own levels, it’s not all that surprising that they leapt at the chance. Nintendo revealed that Super Mario Maker has sold 1 million copies since launch.

The Wii U exclusive has sold 1 million copies since being released on September 11th, but its other metrics are equally impressive. More than 2.2 million levels, of differing quality and difficulty, have been created. These levels have been played almost 75 million times.

Challenging courses from PangaeaPanga might be boosting that number somewhat. After all, his Bomb Voyage level took a combined 11,000 attempts before it was finally beaten.

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime described Super Mario Maker as a dream that’s been 30 years in the making as a Mario fan. He added, “The game has captured and unlocked the imaginations of gaming fans of all ages and brought their dedication to Nintendo to a whole new level.”

Super Mario Maker is now available on Wii U, letting players create, share, and experience brand new levels.
