Michael Fassbender back for Prometheus 2

Prometheus may not have been exactly a good film but it did make a lot of money and it sure was pretty... anyway we're getting a sequel.

That much has been confirmed for quite a while now but we've finally got a little more news, even if it isn't that surprising. Speaking to Deadline, director Ridley Scott has confirmed that Michael Fassbender will be back in the cast for the sequel:

"Oh, yes. He and I are friends, because we also did The Counselor. And, I loveThe Counselor. No one else seemed to."

We're not going to talk about The Counselor because its bloody awful and might well be Scott's worst film but it's great to know that Fassbender will definitely be back, as David was one of the most interesting characters in Prometheus. The sequel looks to be moving ahead quite quickly, according to Scott:

"Fassbender will do this one with me, and it’s meant to start production in February. I’m in prep, now. I’ll either shoot in Aussie, or here."

'Here' refers to Canada, where Scott was showing off his new movie The Martian - a film that's earning the director some of the best reviews of his long career. That sci-fi hit might bode well for another jaunt into the genre as we find out more about the world behind Alien.

Presumably Noomi Rapace will also be back for Prometheus 2, which is set for release in May 2017.
