Google Hangouts gets a dedicated website

Right now, you can go to hangouts.google.com to use your messaging service on its own dedicated page.

It was pretty strange that Google didn't have a dedicated site for this functionality and now that they do it does exactly what you expect. You'll find a simple list of your contacts and an indicator to say whether they're online or not. It's also easy to check for your previous conversations or initiate a video or phone call. It's slick and simple and keeps the circular Google design philosophy.

Also on the page you'll find links to other ways to connect - including iOS and Android Hangouts apps and the Chrome app which lets you connect no matter what web page you have open. With all of these options you could argue that a dedicated site isn't really that useful, given that the messaging service also pops up when you log into Gmail.
