Apple making a welcome change to the iOS keyboard

Apple is making a small, yet significant change to its keyboard for iOS 9. It will soon be much clearer if the user is about to start typing in upper or lower case.

Until now, a change in the shift key’s arrow from grey to black was the only way to tell if you were using upper or lower case letters. Users complained that this wasn’t obvious enough, leading to them having to delete letters and correct themselves.

The updated on-screen keyboard will show the entire range of letters in upper case when the shift key is pressed. This change was announced during the release of the new beta for iOS 9.

It has been a frequently requested feature ever since iOS 7 was in development. But until now, developers have focused their efforts elsewhere.

The latest iOS 9 beta was released over the weekend. This lets users try out the new OS and report bugs ahead of the final version’s release.

iOS 9 will be released to the general public this autumn.
