The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt getting a huge patch - you can finally store your stuff!

The Witcher 3 is already a great game and its being supported by developers CD Project RED in an incredible way since release with a variety of free DLC packs and constant updates. Now there's a new patch on the way, bringing things up to version 1.07. And it's set to be the biggest yet, bringing plenty of fixes as well as entirely new game features.

The full list of changes hasn't been released just yet but all will be revealed later this week when the patch arrives. A few items have been singled out by CD Project RED and they sound pretty incredible for those who have been playing the game for awhile. Here's what they've confirmed so far:

  • A new, alternative (optional) movement response mode for Geralt.
  • A player stash for storing items, available in various locations throughout the game. Stash locations are marked on the player's map.
  • Crafting and alchemy components no longer add to the overall inventory weight.
  • Books are now placed in a dedicated tab in the Inventory and books that have already been read are properly grayed out.
  • Multiple sorting options are now available in the Inventory.
  • Alchemy formulas and crafting diagrams can be "pinned", meaning all components and ingredients required to make them will be conveniently marked in the Shop panel.
  • Dozens of fixes for quest related issues, both major and minor.
  • A few performance enhancements, including the optimization of FX, scenes and general gameplay.
  • Various improvements to horse behavior.

Wow! It sounds like the developers have really listened to everything which users have been talking about since the game launched on the 19th of May 2015. Let's break a few of them down.

The 'new movement response mode' sounds odd. Personally I haven't had any trouble with the way Geralt moves and he seems pretty responsive for an RPG character. But any tweaks are welcome, especially if they can be turned off. The player stash is a big one as previously there was no decent way to store all the amazing armour and swords you picked up. I've had low level swords I just wanted to keep because they looked cool, so it's a shame they didn't go a bit further to let you display them.

Cleaning up the inventory is a bit of a no brainer - it's been a godawful mess since the very beginning, especially if you basically pick up everything you find. Removing books from the equation is a godo idea and I can't believe they didn't think to include some method of sorting at the beginning. I just want to drink some Cat potion dammit - why do I have to look at every flower I've ever plucked first?!

Wild Hunt is a big game and there are still plenty of small problems with quests and graphics, so you'll be getting more improvements there. And the final mention is welcome too - Roach is a fine filly but he doesn't half get lost in scenery a lot. Most of the time I just walk because its far easier.

The final note from CD Project RED was to mention that there won't be any free DLC this week - mostly because they've been working day and night to bring in this massive patch. Players aren't going to bregrudge them that, especially after weeks of free content and some of the best post-release support that I've ever seen. Expect more patch news and the download itself later this week.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is on PS4, Xbox One and PC now.
