VIDEO: Wii U exclusive Splatoon sells more than 1 million copies

The title has been most popular in Japan where 476,000 copies have been sold. Splatoon has sold 230,000 copies in Europe, and 368,000 in North America. These sales figures are made up of both physical copies and digital downloads from the Wii U eShop.

If you’ve missed the buzz around Splatoon so far, it is a third-person team based shooter, which sees teams wrestle for control across a map. Teams must paint the ground in their colour, and hold as much territory as they can by the end. Not only is territory a requirement for victory, but it lets players travel faster across the map and launch surprise attacks.
