How will the Xbox One backward compatibility work? We've got the details
That's pretty amazing, especially for those gamers who have a massive back catalogue of games and don't really have room for two enormous consoles on their shelves. The actual functionality will be arriving on the Xbox One before the end of 2015, with 100 top Xbox 360 titles already chosen. We've heard some titles so far and they're great picks, including Borderlands, Halo 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War and a lot more.
Microsoft has been talking more about exactly how the backwards compatibility will work - with the overview being that you'll pop in an Xbox 360 disk and it will trigger a download for digital code. Naturally it's a lot more complicated than that, and actually involves the Xbox One creating and running a full Xbox 360 emulator. Which is very cool indeed.
So a version of the Xbox 360 dashboard gets launched when you want to play one of those games, all emulated by the far-more powerful Xbox One. They've confirmed that save games will transfer over (which is pretty amazing) provided you're using the same account. And it will still be possible to use Xbox one functions like game streaming and recording and screenshots.
It's an easy way for Microsoft to massively expand its library and also help users feel like there's more value in coming on board the newer console. And if there's a game you really want, you should head here and tell them, because they're actively working to get every fan-wanted title they can.
