Twitter drops the 140 character limit - but only on direct messages

Twitter is an amazing way to communicate with the world, provided you've learned to be brief. The messaging service is pretty much defined by its 140 character limit, and it's pretty amazing how much information people all over the world can relay with just a few short words.

That brevity is certainly one of the platforms greatest strenghts but its not always the best way to keep in touch. That's especially true when it comes to direct messages - or DMs - which retained the 140 character limit despite being a private conversation between two people. It's a very different way of communicating, so thankfully Twitter are finally giving users complete freedom of expression.
