Android M may add fingerprint unlocking

A report from BuzzFeed News suggests that Android M will include Google’s response to Apple’s TouchID. This will let Android users unlock their devices without having to enter a password. All you’ll need to do is place your finger on a sensor. Apparently there will be a number of supported applications that will let you log in using just your fingerprint. It was rumoured that the Nexus 6 was going to use fingerprint scanning. That didn’t pan out in the end. But it does mean that Android may already be able to handle biometric authentication. If Google does add native support for fingerprint unlocking, we may well see a lot more Android devices shipping with fingerprint scanners in the near future.
