After being the butt of jokes about internet browsers for years, Microsoft is hoping that its web browser can escape its reputation by changing its name. Of course, the browser will be better in many other ways too.

For starters, Microsoft Edge will be significantly faster than its predecessor and will feature further integration with digital assistant Cortana. This means more personalised results and actions for every user.Microsoft's corporate vice president of operating systems, Joe Belfiore, said that the name refers to ā€œthe idea of being on the edge of consuming and creating.ā€Edge will be capable of supporting Chrome and Firefox extensions. So if you have some plug-ins that you won’t be able to leave behind, you can carry them over to the new browser with you.Microsoft Edge, formerly known as Project Spartan, will come with all Windows 10 devices shipped. The eventual plan is that it will replace Internet Explorer for good. Windows 10 will still include a version of Internet Explorer, but it’ll mainly be for companies that have developed software to work with it.
