Sony quietly announced the Xperia Z4, revealing that the handset will be released this summer in Japan. No international release date has been set just yet.

The Xperia Z4 doesn’t stray too far from Sony’s tried-and-tested design principles. It is just 6.9mm thick, weighs 144g, and has a polished aluminium frame and glass body.The front of the handset features a 5.2-inch, 1920 x 1080 screen. There’s also a 5.1 megapixel front-facing camera with a 25mm wide-angle focal length and digital image stabilisation, while a 20.7 megapixel camera occupies the rear of the Xperia Z4.Internally, the phone is powered by a 64-bit octacore 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 chip and 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB of on-board storage, and this can be expanded with a microSD card. The phone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop and, as you’d expect, is water- and dust-resistant.The Xperia Z4 will be released in Japan this summer in a choice of white, black, copper, and aqua green. No word on a release in other regions just yet, but we’d expect one to be announced.In Short: Sony announced the Xperia Z4 and its specs this morning, but only confirmed a Japanese release window during the announcement.
