The update is currently rolling out to Android smartphones in select markets. If you can’t wait until the update arrives on Google Play, you can download version 2.12.19 from whatsapp.com/android.The update adds a new tab titled Calls, which is unsurprisingly where you go to if you want to call a contact. You can also make a call from within a chat. All you have to do is hit the phone icon at the top of the screen. The biggest advantage of using WhatsApp to call someone is that you can do it over a WiFi network. So, if you’re away from home, you don’t need to rack up a huge mobile roaming bill, provided you’re on a WiFi network.Facebook Messenger offers similar functionality, but as Facebook owns both it’s not all that surprising that WhatsApp will start to take some features. In Short: WhatsApp is rolling out a new update on Android handsets, which adds the ability to make and receive calls through the app itself.
