Minister for enterprise, tourism and employment Peter Burke has embarked on a week-long programme to the US ahead of St. Patrick's Day, which includes a meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The minister's programme includes over 45 meetings and events, with this year's visit focused on economic growth and diaspora engagement.

Among the minister's engagements are Ireland Day at the New York Stock Exchange, the Irish Funds Global Seminar, the St. Patrick’s Day Foundation Gala and meetings with the Irish community in Woodlawn and Manhattan.

In addition, Mr Burke will meet with the Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, and march in the 256th New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, as well as the Morristown, New Jersey Parade.

Mr Burke will also march in the 256th New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, as well as the Morristown, New Jersey Parade.

Among his many pledges were rent freezes, free bus fares and city-run grocery stores.

The election of the self-described democratic socialist marked a watershed moment for progressives, who have grappled with an increasingly right-wing political landscape that has been further consolidated by President Donald Trump.

“Nowhere marks St Patrick’s Day quite like New York," Mr Burke said.

"I am here to celebrate the contribution of the Irish community and to strengthen the economic partnerships that deliver jobs, innovation and opportunity on both sides of the Atlantic."

During the week-long programme, Mr Burke will also hold a number of meetings with major US investors, as well as Irish companies hoping to expand their market share in the US.

Meanwhile, Taoiseach Micheál Martin's visit to the White House this week will lead 41 St Patrick's Day visits across the globe. Mr Martin will visit Washington DC and Philadelphia on his trip from March 14 to 18.
