Professor Karina Doorley has been appointed to the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council, finance minister and Tánaiste Simon Harris announced on Friday. Â
Ms Doorley was appointed from a panel of shortlisted candidates set up following an open selection process earlier this year. The appointment of Professor Doorley to the Council will fill a pre-existing vacancy when outgoing Council member, Professor Adele Bergin’s term of office came to an end on July 31 last.
Ms Doorley is an economist working on issues related to the tax-benefit system, the distribution of income and the sustainability of public finances. She obtained her PhD from UCD in 2012 and spent five years working in research institutes in Luxembourg and Germany before moving to the ESRI in Dublin. She is currently co-lead of the ESRI’s Tax, Welfare and Pensions (TWP) team and manages the SWITCH microsimulation model of the Irish tax-benefit system.
“I welcome the appointment to the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council of Prof Doorley. I wish to congratulate her on her appointment to the Council and to wish her well in her important role. I would also like to express my appreciation to the outgoing Member, Professor Adele Bergin for her contribution to the work of the Council since her appointment in 2021," said Mr Harris.Â
