Retained firefighters represented by Siptu have voted to accept a Labour Court recommendation aimed at resolving a long-running pay dispute.

There are around 2,000 retained, part-time firefighters across the country. They are not paid a wage but instead are paid a retainer annually to be on call and are additionally paid per callout. Last October, firefighters had rejected a Workplace Relations Commission proposal as the proposed increase in the retainer fee was deemed unacceptable.
