State Claims Agency paid out €574m in settlements last year

Health sector bodies, including the HSE and the Department of Health, accounted for 93% of the estimated outstanding liability at the end of 2023

The National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) paid out €574m in settlements, awards and expenses, up 4% rise on the previous year, according to a new report from the Comptroller and Auditor General.

Also known as the State Claims Agency (SCA), the NTMA manages personal injury, including clinical negligence, and third-party property damage claims on behalf of the State and delegated State authorities, with the estimated costs of settling outstanding claims continuing to rise at a steady rate.
