Booming income tax receipts help drive April revenues to €4.4bn

Vat and, in particular, corporation tax receipts have boomed in previous months and are expected to bring in record amounts for the State this year.

Booming income tax receipts helped deliver a record €4.4bn in receipts to the Government last month, the latest exchequer returns show.  

The Irish exchequer is emerging as the wealthiest in Europe, with the huge outperformance of three of the four major tax sources forcing the Government to set aside billions in reserve funds to fund considerable future spending needs.
