Spanish lender Bankinter welcomed "compelling results" in the first half of this year, with continued growth in its Irish portfolio resulting in its loan book here rising by 24% year-on-year to €5.2bn.
The group's strong performance in Ireland was highlighted as particularly noteworthy across both mortgages and consumer finance. Of the total €5.2bn loan book, some €4bn related to mortgages, growing 29% in the year, with the remaining €1bn reflecting consumer lending.
Bankinter, which operates in Ireland through Avant Money, said its product catalogue includes deposit products as of 2026, with €100m in consumer funds being deposited to date.
“Our strong performance in the first half of the year reflects the continued progress across our business and the strength of Bankinter’s proposition in Ireland," said Niall Corbett, country manager at Bankinter Ireland.
"Surpassing €5bn in lending in the second quarter was a significant milestone. The positive response to our recently launched deposit products is also an important step in the development of our business, enabling us to serve more customers and bring greater choice and competition to the Irish market.
"We will continue to broaden our offering and expand Bankinter’s presence in Ireland.”
Across the wider group, Bankinter, Spain's fifth largest bank reported profit before tax of €853m, up 11.4% year on year, and net profit of €605m, which grew almost 12% annually.
The group said its profitability once again outperformed, with its return on equity of 19.1% which was among the highest in the European banking sector.
