Bord Gáis has welcomed a solid performance for the first six months of 2026 despite challenging market conditions, with earnings growing marginally compared to the same period in 2025.

The Centrica-owned energy provider recorded earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of €50m between January and June following a "disciplined delivery" across its portfolios, up from €49m in the same six months in 2025.

Bord Gáis now has approximately 1GW of energy generation in operation and development, with key flexible generation assets in Athlone and Dublin progressing towards commissioning later this year. A third asset in East Galway is also in the planning phase, Bord Gáis said.

In March, a new Centrica Power Global Control Centre was opened in Athlone, which oversees assets across Europe, including the UK, Belgium and Sweden, including flexible thermal power generation, battery energy storage and solar.

The business has also further expanded its low-carbon energy solutions through long-term power purchase agreements. Following the acquisition of Cork solar company Swyft Energy, the business has capitalised on the growing demand for solar, delivering approximately 1,000 installations, up 21% annually.

Of this, almost 900 installs in the year were to support residential customers in reducing energy costs and emissions, the energy provider noted.

Cost of living pressures

Bord Gáis also said supporting customers in the context of ongoing cost of living pressures remained a core priority, with its Energy Support Fund for customers experiencing financial difficulty growing to €7.9m since its establishment in 2022.

“Our mid-year performance reflects a stable and disciplined business, delivering in line with expectations while continuing to invest in the infrastructure and capabilities required for Ireland’s energy future," said Dave Kirwan, chairman of Bord Gáis and managing director of Centrica.

"We remain focused on supporting our customers, particularly in the context of ongoing affordability challenges, while progressing our strategy to deliver a more secure, flexible and lower-carbon energy system."
