RTÉ appoints Central Bank director as CFO

Annemarie Britz will take up the position at RTÉ in the autumn.

Annemarie Britz, a director at the Central Bank of Ireland, has been appointed as the new chief financial officer at RTÉ, the State broadcaster has announced.

Ms Britz currently serves as the director of finance and business performance at the Central Bank but is scheduled to take up her new role in the autumn later this year.

It was announced in January that the current chief financial officer of RTÉ Mari Hurley was resigning to take up a new job outside the broadcaster. She was in the role for less than 18 months taking up the position from Richard Collins in August 2024 who left following the controversy surrounding Ryan Tubridy.

It was subsequently announced that Ms Hurley was taking up the position of chief financial officer at the State’s largest private landlord Irish Residential Properties REIT. Ms Hurley was said to remain at the broadcaster until the spring.

RTÉ confirmed that there would be an interim appointment made to the position of chief financial officer until the autumn when Ms Britz can formally take up the position. However, this appointment has not been announced.

RTÉ said Ms Britz's appointment comes after a public competition.

RTÉ director general Kevin Bakhurst said Ms Britz brings a “wealth of experience to the role which will be of great benefit to me and to RTÉ’s leadership team as we continue the necessary transformation of RTÉ and ensure the organisation remains on a financially sustainable path”.

“I look forward to welcoming her to the organisation in due course.”

Ms Britz joined the Central Bank in 2019 as its head of the Financial Control Division, a position she held until 2024 when she was appointed to her current role. Prior to joining the bank, she spent much of her career working in the private sector in South Africa where she held a number of chief financial officer positions.

She joined the Reserve Bank of South Africa in 2014 where she held the positions of deputy chief financial officer until 2016 and subsequently became deputy head financial markets until departing in 2019.

Ms Britz said it is “a privilege to join RTÉ at such a pivotal moment”.
