Hilton to open boutique hotel on South Terrace in Cork City
The South Terrace project will see the conversion of three late-Georgian buildings — Nos 31, 32, and 33 — into the hotel.
Hotel chain Hilton has announced plans to open a new location on South Terrace in Cork City Centre under its boutique Tapestry Collection.
In December, the revealed that two new hotels in Cork City were about to get off the ground — one on South Mall and a second to be located on South Terrace which was being developed by JMK hospitality group.
However, it was not revealed at the time that Hilton would be involved in the South Terrace location. Planning permission for it was granted in 2022. The new hotel is expected to open in the autumn of 2027.
Hilton already has four other hotels in its Tapestry Collection which are located in the UK. A fifth one is also due to be opened in Plymouth. Between the new Cork and Plymouth locations, Hilton is expecting to add 100 jobs.
Hilton’s Cork City location will comprise 103 rooms including a mix of standard rooms and extended‑stay accommodation with kitchenettes. It will also feature a restaurant and breakfast area, a bar, and a fitness space.
Director of the JMK Group Sonia Kajani said: “We are excited to bring the Tapestry Collection by Hilton to Cork. Hilton’s strong brand recognition and global reach make them an ideal partner, and this project will be a brilliant addition to our growing portfolio of high-quality hotels”.
Vice-president for the UK, Ireland, and the Nordics at Hilton, Nick Smart, said both these new locations “highlight our commitment to expanding our lifestyle portfolio across the UK and Ireland”.
“These distinctive, locally inspired hotels tap into the vibrancy, rich heritage and growing tourism appeal of Plymouth and Cork, making them a great fit for the Tapestry Collection brand as we continue to grow our footprint beyond the biggest, most well-known cities.”
The South Terrace project will see the conversion of three late-Georgian buildings — Nos 31, 32, and 33 — into the hotel. The group bought the buildings for around €1m about a decade ago.
The JMK Group previously stated that the location would operate under the Adagio brand, a key brand in the European aparthotel market. However, the location will now become a Hilton.
The planning grant includes permission for a five-floor over-ground floor and lower-ground-floor annex to the rear of the buildings, as well as an external landscaped courtyard.
