Imagine has continues its push into Ireland's 5G broadband market as it signed a "multimillion euro" agreement with Open Eir to access its national fibre network and mobile network.
Open Eir is Ireland's largest wholesale telecommunications provider offering voice, broadband, and data services to retail service providers. The three-year partnership will provide Imagine with access to Open Eir's national fibre network, mobile network, and more than 170 Points of Presence (PoPs), access points which improve connectivity and efficiency.
"This partnership gives us the network scale, reach, and resilience we need as we move more customers onto fibre and 5G, and supports our long‑term plan to grow responsibly and sustainably," said Imagine chief executive Niall Tallon. "It also underpins our price certainty for our customers with our fibre freeze until the end of 2030 and the freedom to leave anytime without long-term lock-ins.”
Imagine said the new partnership with Open Eir will help to scale its fibre broadband services, including those delivered over both the National Broadband Plan footprint and Open Eir’s expanding fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, which is available to over 1.4m homes and businesses.
Open Eir operates as a subsidiary of the Eir group. The partnership with Imagine includes collaboration on mobile broadband, with a pilot currently live delivering 4,000 5G home broadband devices using the Eir mobile network, supporting high‑capacity home connectivity in areas where fibre is not yet available.
"This partnership reflects our long‑term commitment to operators investing in the future, and we are pleased to support Imagine with the strength of our fibre and mobile networks, ensuring greater choice, reliability and performance for customers across Ireland," Open Eir managing director Maeve O’Malley said.
In late 2025, Imagine announced a price freeze until the end of 2030 on all its fibre broadband plans, guaranteeing customers that their monthly bill will not increase during that time. Imagine also offers leave anytime flexibility.
In February, Imagine agreed an access deal with Siro which will allow Imagine to sell fibre broadband products and services to more than 700,000 residential consumers who have existing access to the Siro network.
Imagine was acquired by Team Group, Armenia’s leading telecoms operator, in 2024. Its Irish-led management is rebuilding the company with modern infrastructure, investment in new systems, and increased customer service teams.
