New airbridge, Wi-Fi and bag-drop tech set to transform Cork Airport
Cork Airport
Cork Airport has announced a series of upgrades to its operations, which it said will make the passenger experience easier and more convenient.
The airport said it has tripled its Wi-Fi hardware, allowing passengers to download films, TV shows, and music more quickly, as well as conduct business calls, with speeds up to 200Mb faster than before.
It has also introduced a new car park prebooking system and automated number plate recognition hardware, which will save time on booking and allow faster airport entry.Â
Customers no longer need to present a credit card at the car park, as their vehicle’s number plate will be automatically scanned, permitting swifter access.
Additionally, customers can present a QR code at any car park entry point, which can be found on their booking confirmation emails.
The airport has also launched new bag-drop and check-in technology in conjunction with Aer Lingus.

The self-service, express bag check-in kiosks are located at the Aer Lingus check-in area on the terminal’s ground floor.
Cork Airport has also announced its third airbridge, which it said will provide easier boarding and disembarking for passengers.
The €1.4m airbridge will be located at Gate 6 and is expected to become operational in the coming weeks, in time for the summer season. It was constructed by TKE and transported from Spain to Cork two weeks ago.

Commenting on the various technological and infrastructural improvements, Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport said: “We need to keep on improving, innovating and changing so more and more passengers choose the convenience and friendliness of Cork Airport.Â
"These initiatives one by one may seem small but are part of a continuous improvement programme where we always aim for better.”Â
