Cork's Lisavaird Food Group has continued its growth strategy with the acquisition of Louth firm Seafood Processors Ltd, which trades as Morgans Fine Fish.

Lisavaird Food Group, which is a subsidiary of Lisavaird Co-Op in West Cork, made the announcement on Wednesday. The deal strengthens Lisavaird's national seafood footprint as it continues to gro in the Irish seafood sector.

Lisavaird's existing seafood businesses include Glenmar Ireland - managing five operating sites in Dublin, West Cork, Midleton, Galway, Wexford; Glenmar UK, and Bluewave, which has been a leader in seafood production and distribution for over 40 years.

The addition of Morgans introduces a retail arm to Lisavaird’s seafood business with substantial processing capability in Ireland's North East.

"We believe this proposed acquisition will bring significant benefits to both businesses," said Lisavaird Co-Op chief executive Martin Dineen. "Morgans is a company with an exceptional heritage, a strong reputation for quality and a commitment to sustainable seafood. This step further enhances our seafood offering and positions us well to serve customers right across Ireland and further afield.”

Morgans is a fifth-generation, family-owned seafood processor with roots dating back to 1860. From its state-of-the-art facility in Omeath, Co Louth, the business supplies high-quality fresh, frozen, pre-packed and value-added seafood to retail, foodservice, wholesale, and healthcare customers throughout Ireland.

The company employs more than 80 people and is recognised for its emphasis on sustainability, traceability and continuous investment in modern processing technologies. “Joining Lisavaird Food Group represents a natural next step for Morgans. We share the same values of quality, sustainability and customer focus," said Morgans co-owner and director Joe Morgan. "With the support and scale of Lisavaird Food Group, we look forward to continuing to grow the business, investing in our people, our site in Omeath and our product offering for customers.”

Completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory review and approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in Ireland. Until approval is granted, both companies will continue to operate independently and there will be no changes to day-to-day operations, customer service, or supplier arrangements.

Lisavaird Food Group is active across seafood, dairy, spreads, cooked meats and bakery and forms a key part of Lisavaird Groups €218m turnover recorded in 2024.

Lisavaird now employs 380 people across its business. It has diversified its portfolio considerably, which now includes Glen Áine Foods in Co Limerick, Coolmore bakery in Bandon, Co Cork, Glenmar Shellfish in Union Hall, Glenmar Seafoods UK, Bluewave, and the makers of Frytex and Dairymaid, JDS Foods in Cork City. Lisavaird is also a joint owner of Clóna Dairy and ingredients and cheese production giant Carbery.

Lisavaird Co-Op celebrates its centenary in 2025. The Co-Op and its food group businesses continue to focus on high-quality, responsibly sourced Irish food for both domestic and international markets and are active participants in Bord Bia’s Origin Green sustainability programme.
