Garry Moroney named new CEO of Irish Times Group
Garry Moroney, new Irish Times DAC CEO.
The Irish Times Group has appointed Garry Moroney as its new Chief Executive.
He takes over the role from Deirdre Veldon, who stepped down in September.
Along with the Irish Times, the group includes the Irish Examiner and Echo media titles, breakingnews.ie, property website MyHome.ie, deaths notice website RIP.ie and a number of regional media titles.
From a technology background, Mr Moronoey founded and led two Irish-based software businesses, Clavis Insight and Similarity Systems, guiding them from start-up through to acquisition by major international companies. In 2019, he was appointed CEO of corporate travel firm Roomex.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a management consultant with McKinsey and holds an MBA from Trinity College Dublin and a degree in Engineering from UCC.
Mr Moroney will officially take up his role on December 1. The Group's Chief Financial Officer, Mikie Sheehan, will return to his CFO role, having held the position of Interim Managing Director following Ms Veldon's departure.
Mr Moronoey takes over the role of CEO following a busy period of acquisitions by the Irish Times DAC.
In 2024, it acquired 100% of the share capital of Gradam Communication, which trades as RIP.ie, and ScoreBeo Limited, a sports data website. It also acquired the remaining 50% shareholding of Gloss Publications.
Most recent accounts from the group show a doubling of profits to €4m last year, largely driven by a €3.4m profit on the disposal of south east radio station WKW FM, or Beat 102 – 103, to Newstalk owners Bauer.
