The team behind Oak Fire Pizza have opened a new pizza eatery in Cork city centre as they hope to attract revellers who have worked up an appetite over the jazz weekend.

Bronx Pizza is the brainchild of Oak Fire Pizza co-founder Andrew Loane. Oak Fire Pizza, founded by Andrew and Tayfur Turkan operates in Clonakilty, Bandon, Princes Street in Cork city, Douglas, and in the Marina Market. Oak Fire Pizza also has partnership with Griolladh at the Marina Market and in Douglas.

Andrew and Tayfur also previously opened an Oak Fire outlet on Gillabey Street, off College Road before rebranding it as Boxt, their first by-the-slice pizza outlet. Boxt closed in August 2025. At the time, the owners said costs and seasonality had been major challenges.

“Boxt was a learning curve,” said Andrew. "We were doing too many add-ons to the menu, including hot dogs, shakes and ice-cream. Bronx will be a culmination of 15 years of experience and will offer a much simpler menu of jumbo NY slices, pizza pies and chunky NY style cookies.

“We wanted to build on what we started with Boxt. Rebranding and relocating felt like the right move, keeping the energy of the single slice alive, but with a stronger, more focused concept for the city centre.”

Andrew is looking at a different type of diner for Bronx Pizza.  “In New York, you can grab a single slice that’s as good as a whole pie and that’s the energy we want to bring to Cork,” said Andrew. "I’ve always loved New York - the energy, the culture and its unapologetic hustle. My mother actually lived on University Avenue in the Bronx when she was younger, so there’s a personal connection there too.”
