Yuno Energy has announced a price freeze for its 65,000 electricity and gas customers for the winter months, with no price hike until March 1 at the earliest.

Several competitors including Bord Gáis Energy, Energia, Pinergy, SSE Airtricity, and Flogas have announced price increases in recent weeks. Monday's announcement means new business unit rates at Yuno Energy are 25c (inluding Vat) for electricity and 7.85c (includiing Vat) for gas.

Chief executive Cathal Fay said the expected absence of universal energy credits this winter - with none expected in the Budget - would make customers more price sensitive than ever. “The coming winter is going to be difficult for many customers and we believe that this announcement will reassure both existing and new customers that they can have predictability about energy costs for the coming months," said Mr Fay.

Yuno Energy said a customer moving to Yuno Energy for both electricity and gas could save up to €945 made up of savings of €551 on electricity and €384 on gas.

Set up two years ago, Yuno Energy is a sister company of PrepayPower – Ireland’s largest pay-as-you-go energy company. Last week PrepayPower announced a similar freeze on prices for the winter months.

In recent weeks a number of providers of electricity and gas have announced price increases including Energia, Bord Gáis Energy, Pinergy, SSE Airtricity and Flogas
