McLay takes on new energy role at McCann FitzGerald

Stephen Holst, Peter McLay and Valerie Lawlor of law firm McCann FitzGerald.
Law firm McCann FitzGerald has appointed Peter McLay as partner in its expanding Energy Group.
Peter brings valuable experience advising on strategically important infrastructure and energy developments in Ireland and internationally. He brings technical insight and commercial acumen.
His appointment comes as demand continues to grow for legal expertise in energy delivery and complex project structuring, driven by planning reform, Ireland’s climate targets and the ambitions set out in the National Development Plan.
Stephen Holst, managing partner at McCann FitzGerald, said: “Peter’s appointment is part of our strategy to unite the best insights, deep sectoral expertise, and commercial fluency within a single, integrated team in this key sector. This collaborative approach is about giving clients the clarity, confidence and strategic advice they need to deliver complex, future-focused projects.”
Peter McLay said that Ireland is entering a critical phase in its energy and infrastructure journey, and clients need legal advice that is technically sound, commercially astute and sector-aware.
Other recent senior hires and promotions at the firm include Ciara O’Leary as partner in the investment management group and Maedhbh Clancy as partner, head of knowledge.
In May, the firm announced nine new partners across its core practice areas, and in April was named Ireland’s Law Firm of the Year at the IFLR Europe Awards 2025.
Headquartered in Dublin with offices in London, New York and Brussels, the firm comprises 96 partners and over 650 lawyers and professional staff.
