More than €150m was spent by Irish consumers using Revolut during a three-day splurge over the St Patrick's bank holiday weekend, with like-for-like spending up 17% on 2024.

More than €150m was spent by Irish consumers using Revolut during a three-day splurge over the St Patrick's bank holiday weekend, with like-for-like spending up 17% on 2024, the online banking and financial payments company said on Tuesday.

Revolut, which has more than 3m customers in Ireland, recorded 6.8m transactions from Saturday March 15 to Monday March 17, 2025, compared with Friday March 15 to Sunday March 17 2024. The increase in consumer spending accounted for Revolut's customer growth since 2024.

Hospitality businesses such as bars, cafes, and restaurants saw the biggest spending jump over the St Patrick's holiday period, with Revolut recording a near 10% rise in card payments. This amounted to a 15.5% increase in the total spent at these venues compared with last year.

With St Patrick’s Day falling on the bank holiday Monday this year, Revolut actually saw a 6% dip in card payment activity on March 17 itself compared to last year’s St Patrick's day celebration which fell on a Sunday.  Despite this dip in the number of payments on the Sunday the spend was higher: 7% more was spent with Revolut on St Patrick’s Day compared to the year previous. The data suggests that the lure of a Six Nations finale and a bank holiday Monday to recover led revellers towards splashing out most on the Saturday and Sunday (March 15-16).

Despite the increased spend recorded over the three days, sales of store-bought beer, wine, and liquor fell 9% compared with the volume of payments recorded across the 2024 weekend, "indicating a preference for venturing out versus staying in among Irish consumers", Revolut said. "Spending on taxis supports this; Revolut saw an 8.5% rise in the volume of these transactions, with 16% more spent on cab fares versus the 2025 weekend."

The bank’s Revolut Business customers also saw an increase in revenues over the St Patrick’s Day weekend. Those in the ‘food, beverages or tobacco’ industries saw a near threefold uplift across the 2025 celebrations versus 2024, even when accounting for customer growth.

Revolut passed 3m customers in Ireland at the end of 2024, with around 430,000 aged under 18. Revolut said in 2024 that it plans to start rolling out mortgages to Irish consumers in 2025.

The company has more than 50 million customers worldwide.
