Eir records earnings increase driven by growth in its customer base

The company’s results for 2024 shows revenue increased by 2%, or €30m, to nearly €1.33bn compared to 2023.

Telecommunications company Eir has posted a 4% rise in earnings during 2024 driven by an increase in its customer base including fibre broadband and mobile phone services.

The company’s results for 2024 shows revenue increased by 2%, or €30m, to nearly €1.33bn compared to 2023 following a strong end to the year. During the final three months of the year, revenue rose by 4% or €15m compared to the previous year.

This steady progress reflects eir's continued expansion of its customer base.

The company’s earnings before the deduction of interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization rose 4% during the year to €614m. Its operating costs also rose by 5% to €417m.

As of the end of 2024, the company had 886,000 fibre broadband connections, up 17%. In its mobile phone division, the company has over 1.5m customers, up 84,000.

Stephen Tighe, chief financial officer at Eir, said the company has seen “growth across the eir fibre broadband base and in total mobile customers, with a further increase seen in the multi-play bundling of eir fixed households”.

“Our solid commercial momentum is now delivering organic revenue growth on a consistent basis,” he said.

Last year, Eir was also one of the most complained about companies in Ireland according to both the communications regulator ComReg as well as the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

The customer care team of ComReg recorded more than 500 fixed service provider issues for Eir in the final three months of 2024, with a further 125 mobile service provider issues being recorded for the telecommunications company.

According to the CCPC, Eir placed second in the top ten traders that the CCPC received contacts about in 2024 just behind Ticketmaster. Overall, 604 contacts were made to the commissions helpline in regards to Eir last year.

Oliver Loomes, chief executive of Eir, said 2024 marked “another year of growth for eir across our top and bottom lines”.

“Over the past 12 months, we successfully expanded our world-class fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network to over 1.3 million homes and businesses across Ireland," he said.

"We are proud to meet the increasing demand for high-speed internet, with FTTH traffic rising by 38.4% over the past year.”
