Aldi Ireland has announced further pay rises for its more than 4,000 employees, with the minimum hourly rate for staff at stores and warehouses increasing to €15.10 per hour, the retailer announced on Tuesday.

Staff will also receive additional increments after one, two and three years of service, with the latest increase meaning pay rates at Aldi have risen by 23% in the last four years.

This exceeds the rate of inflation, the retailer said, which has risen by just under 20% in the same period.

As part of the company's annual pay and benefits review, it is also enhancing its employee benefits and wellbeing support package with improved neonatal leave of up to 12 weeks to further support colleagues with new families. It will also improve its maternity and paternity leave offers to provide greater flexibility to employees, the company added.

The retailer currently operates 163 stores in Ireland, with a footprint in all 26 counties, along with regional distribution centres located in Naas, Co. Kildare and Mitchelstown, Co. Cork.

Currently, Aldi employs around 4,650 people across Ireland.

“This investment continues our long-standing commitment to leading the market on pay, and to paying at a minimum the living wage to all our colleagues, which we have done every year since 2018," said Niall O'Connor, Aldi Ireland group managing director.

"This year, we are pleased to be introducing an improved neonatal leave of up to 12 weeks which will provide additional support to our colleagues with new families, while we are also enhancing our maternity and paternity leave offers to provide greater flexibility and support to employees.”
