Penneys completes €4m renovation of Wilton store in Cork

Penneys has completed a €4 million renovation of its Cork, Wilton Shopping Centre store.
Penneys has announced the completion of a €4m renovation of its popular store in Wilton Shopping Centre, Cork.
The revamp has seen the introduction of 18 self-service checkout tills alongside its traditional tills.
Originally opened in 2007, the store has expanded to a size of 31,800 sq ft, and includes a larger home department.
The project took three months to complete, with work taking place at night while the store was closed.
The redevelopment is part of the company's commitment to invest over €250m in Ireland by 2031.
It comes as the Penneys store on St Patrick Street in the city centre is set for a €60m redevelopment.
Earlier this month, a section of the public right of way on a historic 18th-century Cork city centre laneway was extinguished to facilitate the expansion.
City councillors approved the move in relation to a section of Elbow Lane, which runs from Cook St towards Oliver Plunkett St, last July.
It followed a request from the O’Flynn Group to facilitate the planning permission granted to Primark Limited and O’Flynn Construction for the redevelopment and amalgamation of retail units at St Patrick’s St, Cook St, Oliver Plunkett St, and Robert St, across almost an entire city centre block, to increase the size of Penneys' flagship Cork store by some 50%.
