Irish customers spent €1.25bn through their Revolut cards during the month of May which is close to an 8% increase compared to April.

Revolut customers in Ireland saw their spending on sports and other related activities increase significantly during last month, likely driven by the better weather conditions, new data shows.

According to the company, Irish customers spent €1.25bn through their Revolut cards during the month of May which is close to an 8% increase compared to April.

The company said it has 2.8 million customers in Ireland with nearly 55 million card payments analysed for the data.

The data shows there was a significant increase in spending in sports clubs during the month — an increase of 70% compared to the same period last year. Similarly, parents are paying out more this year for sports and recreation camps for their children compared to last, rising by 7.5% year-on-year.

Irish consumers also spent 23% more on health and gym memberships during May compared to last year.

Compared to April, spending on sports apparel and goods was up 13% and 12% respectively.

The better weather seen during the month also gave people the opportunity to play more golf with spending in golf courses rising 20% compared to April which was likely inspired by The Masters as well as the PGA Championship.
