The chief executive of the Port of Cork Company Eoin McGettigan has announced he will step down from his role after just over three years.

The Port of Cork services routes to the US, Africa, as well as mainland Europe. Cruise liners also dock at the port.

Mr McGettigan said he had not taken the decision “lightly”, adding he had “thoroughly enjoyed” his time working at the Port of Cork.

“I remain committed to supporting my team, the board and ensuring a smooth leadership transition.”

Mr McGettigan took up the role on October 1, 2020. He will continue to serve in the position until May this year.

“I remain committed to supporting my team, the board and ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

Port of Cork Company chair Michael Walsh thanked Mr McGettigan for his efforts over the last number of years.

“We wish Eoin the very best in his future endeavours and in the meantime, our focus remains on continuing to further strengthen and evolve our business and looking ahead to an exciting transformative period for Port of Cork,” he said.

During his tenure in the role, Mr McGettigan oversaw the opening of the new €94m terminal in Ringaskiddy in 2022. This allowed the company to move 70% of its activities from Cork City to deeper waters of the lower harbour.

He also oversaw the launch of the Port Masterplan 2050, which sets out the company’s strategy for the years ahead.
