Two Cork credit unions to merge following AGM vote

Two Cork credit unions have agreed to combine resources in response to a "modern need of consumers."

In its annual general meeting on Wednesday evening, Douglas Credit Union and Glanmire & District Credit Union voted in favour of a proposal to amalgamate, in a move they will offer members "improved services and stronger support in both communities."

Speaking on the merger, the amalgamated credit unions said it will make banking more convenient for members, adding that the new, bigger Credit Union will offer them access to a wider network of branches and a broader range of financial products including Mortgages, Current Accounts, competitive loan options, savings and innovative digital banking solutions.

Speaking about the merger, CEO of Douglas Credit Union, Roy McKnight, said: “We are excited about this merger that brings together the knowledge, resources and dedication of two trusted credit unions in Cork. 

"As well as offering enhanced services for members we believe the amalgamation will be good for the local communities as it will further strengthen community initiatives, sponsorships and developments in the greater Douglas, Glanmire and Passage West areas.”
